Newham Council wishes to sell Debden House Campsite for what can only be assumed to be a housing estate. Debden House is an important place for children and families to spend time in nature together. It is the last remaining wild, open space close to London that people can explore freely and sit under the stars around a campfire with their nearest and dearest.
The council does make a loss by running the campsite, BUT the psychological benefit of visiting the campsite for a day or a weekend outweighs a small fiscal loss each year. The council also claims that the site needs one million pounds of reinvestment but regular visitors know the facilities on site do not need massive reinvestment. The amenities are basic but work well and are actually some of the nicest camping facilities most of us have used on a campsite.
